Objectives:
To enhance the students’ knowledge of the grammatical terms and their ability to recognize sentence errors


Instructions

• Late assignments will not be accepted.
• If the file is corrupt or problematic, it will be marked zero.
• Plagiarism will never be tolerated. Plagiarism occurs when a student uses work done by someone else as if it was his or her own; however, taking the ideas from different sources and to express it in your own words will be encouraged.
• No assignment will be accepted via e-mail.
• The solution file should be in Word Document form; the font color should be preferably black and font size can be 12 Times New Roman.



Q1. Read the given passage carefully and answer the questions given at the end. (10)


Amna lives in Lahore, but she works in Islamabad. (1) Her life is not an easy one, nor is it eventful.(2) When the summer season began, there were many responsibilities to shoulder.(3) She loves outing.(4) A visit to Sawat Valley was fun, but Amna thought that Lake Saiful Malook was really more beautiful than any other place she had even seen.(5) On way back from outing, she has eaten nice food.(6) Before that she was thinking of leaving her job.(7)She wanted to take a break.(8) Now she is refreshed when the outing ended.(9) Either apples or ice cream are refreshing enough to make her love her work again. (10)



Q a - Identify the sentence-types of the underlined sentences from (1-5). Please keep
in view the structural classification of sentences (e.g. simple, compound,
complex or compound-complex etc). (5 marks)


Q b- Recall your knowledge of English grammar and identify the grammatical
category of the words in bold from (6-9). (4 Marks)

Q c- Remove the grammatical error in the last sentence of the given passage if any.

Q2. Rewrite the following sentences after correcting them. (5)

1. Due to the students had successfully completed their exams, their parents rewarded
their efforts by giving them a trip to Paris.

2. I'm afraid there is nobody to help you. You'll all have to do everything for yourself.

3. Although the danger that he might be injured, Kamal bravely enters the burning house
in order to save the old man.

4. The committee decide whether or not the school should be held responsible for it’s
actions.

5. Anna wants to teach children she will become a first grade teacher.
