In the field of communication. Radio is one of the most powerful media. In fact. It has certain advantages over films and newspapers. Films cannot be screened without a lot of costly equipment. Newspapers are of use only to those who can read them. But the voice of radio reaches even the remotest parts of a country, and its message is understood by all it is not an exaggeration to say that radio is the greatest purveyor of news. Views and entertainment. Radio has played a great part in educating the people living in far-flung and backward villages. it has brought to them the voice of leaders ,experts and entertainers. It has made them aware of and interested in their problems and their solution. They are no longer content with their ignorance and poverty. They wish to progress. Radio makes the people aware of what goes on in the world. The world. It is an era of international co- operation and inter- dependence. The contribution of radio in spreading information and promoting mutual understanding is extremely useful and valuable. But the virtues of radio should not blind us to its defects. The fact that few of us live outside the range of an aerial . shows that those who control broadcasting have immense power and unlimited apportunities of influencing people. If they misuse their power. they can do a lot of harm . the unpleasant truth is that radio has not lived up to its promise. It is devoting too much time to popular entertainment and government propaganda. Popular in this context. Dose not differ from vulgar. Every where in this world broadcasting has sold it self to the entertainer and the advertiser. It our country entertainment means film music. Particularly vulgar music. The listeners. Day begins with film songs and ends with film songs. the most popular programmes are those of radio Celyon which broadcasts nothing but film songs. Nest in popular appeal come the request porgrammes of radio Pakistan and all India radio. There are other ways of presenting film songs. Request programmes. Stories with songs. Seasonal programmes for rural listeners-all give you songs. No wonder that radio has earned the disapproval of the educated and the cultured for. Instead of reforming the pubic taste. It has become the chief source of broadcasting what is vulgar and harmful.
