    Q. 12 Write a detailed note on Rex and his Adventures.
Answer: “Snapshot f a dog” by James Thurber is a half-humorous half-serious piece of writing. He understands dogs and writes about them with sympathy and affection. The author and his brothers got the dog Rex when they were in their early teens. It was an American bull terrier, not very beautiful but exceptionally intelligent and powerful. The three brothers used to give him difficult takes. One of these was the bringing of a ten-foot wooden log into the yard through they four feet wide back gate. Rex caught the big heavy log at the middle and carried it to the door. When he tried to enter, the log bumped against the wall and he got a terrific-jolt. He tried again with the same result. Finally, he worked out how to do it. He caught the log at one end dragged it through the door. Rex was a great fighter, but he never started a fight. He fought only when his opponent would not let him alone. Even he did not fight as other dogs did. He would not catch the opponent by the throat. He would catch the other dogs car in his powerful teeth, close his eyes and hold on. He could do this for hours. His longest fight was with a black man’s large dog. Rex got his grip ion that dog’s ear and closed his eyes. The unfortunate dog began to scream horribly. The black man picked up the dogs and hurled them ten feet away. Still Rex did not loosen his grip. They reached the middle of the tracks forcing the trams to stop on either side. A driver tried to force open Rex’s jaw with a rod but without success. Somebody put a flaming stick under his tail but to no avail. Rex held on. At last the local Fire Department was sent .fire engine threw a powerful stream of water on the dogs and then Rex decided to let the other dog go. Rex was very fond of swimming. He enjoyed this sport as human beings do. He was a very daring jumper. He could jump over eight feet high fences and walls. Rex never ran after wagons. Perhaps he knew that he could not catch a wagon in his powerful jaws and drag it home. So he left them alone. He never bit a person, not barked at anyone except vagabonds. Rex had only one bad habit. He could not bear the sight of a cat. Whenever he saw one he killed in neatly and quickly. His owners could not cure of this bad habit. He lived a very busy life. His end came abruptly but he fought against leath bravely. One afternoon he staggered home badly wounded. Somebody had given him a terrible beating. He licked the hands of his two master and then looked around. One of his masters was absent. Rex was certainly dying but he fought against death for full one hour. At last his third master came in. Rex touched his hand with his muzzle and fell on the floor. He was dead.
