    “ Leadership and Team Work”

    Suppose Mr. Sohaib has been appointed as Managing Director of an IT based organization.
    This organization is facing working crisis because of many pending projects in absence of
    proper and vigilant leadership. The existing culture of the organization is based on
    individualistic approach. Every one has his\her own working style and is not cooperating with
    others for meeting deadlines. After joining this organization, he has analyzed the whole
    situation in depth and planned to promote team work to get completed pending projects on
    immediate basis because he believes that team work can be the best solution to get this
    organization out of working crises but it is also very important to choose and train the right
    persons as team leaders, share his power and vision with them for fostering and nurturing team
    work in the organization.

    Looking at the above scenario, answer the questions below:

    Question No.1:
    What do you think which leadership style will be appropriate for promoting and enhancing
    team work and why? (3+5)marks
    Question No.2:
    How Mr. Shohaib would be able to share his power with the team leaders? 7 marks

    Question No.1:
    What do you think which leadership style will be appropriate for promoting and enhancing team work and why?

    Organizational goals will be achieved not by individuals working together separately, but by groups of people who share responsibility for outcomes and who work efficiently and effectively in teams.

    The three major styles of leadership are:

    Authoritarian or autocratic
    Participative or democratic
    Delegative or Free Reign

    I feel that in this situation Authoritarian and Participative style will be suitable because there is absence of proper and vigilant leadership and the culture of the organization is based on individualistic approach.
    So there is a need of leadership and also to some extent employees know their jobs and have idea about their work only proper guidance is missing.
    Authoritarian style is used when leaders tell their employees what they want done and how they want it accomplished, without getting the advice of their followers. Some of the appropriate conditions to use it are when you have all the information to solve the problem, you are short on time, and your employees are well motivated
    Participative style involves the leader including one or more employees in the decision making process. However, the leader maintains the final decision making authority.



    Question No.2: How Mr. Shohaib would be able to share his power with the team leaders?
    Managers can share their power with other members in following ways:

    The different types of power can engender different levels of subordinate motivation.
    1. With commitment, members respond enthusiastically and exert a high level of effort toward organizational goals.
    a. Commitment is the most common outcome of referent power and expert power.
    b. Commitment is least likely to result from the use of coercive power.

    2. With compliance, members exert at least minimal efforts to complete directives, but are likely to deliver average, rather than stellar, performance.
    a. Compliance is the most likely outcome of the use of legitimate power, information power, and reward power.
    b. Compliance is a possible outcome of coercive power if used in a helpful way or of referent power of expert power when some element of apathy is present.

    3. With resistance, members may appear to comply, but actually do the absolute minimum, possibly even attempting to disrupt the attainment of organizational goals.
    a. Resistance is a likely outcome of coercive power.
    b. Resistance is a possible outcome of other types of power if used inappropriately.

    4. The effective manager is one who does not have to rely on a single power b
