The foundation stone of the main building was laid by His Excellency the Viceroy, the Earl of Dufferin and Ava on Wednesday 3rd November 1886. Aitchison College is the lineal descendent of the wards’ School at Ambala and the Chiefs’ Colleges. The College is named after then Lt. Governor of the Punjab, Sir Charles Umpherston Aitchison. The College stands in its own estate of over 186 acres in the heart of present-day Lahore. Its grounds and buildings are some of the best known architectural set pieces of the town. The Governor of the Punjab is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the College.
