Scenario:
Ms. Ayesha has been working in the administration of a hospital for the last four years. According to the rules of service, she is due for a promotion at the end of the year. Her annual performance review is good and the department members all agree that she is a supportive and hard-working individual.
However, when the promotions are announced Ayesha finds that Mr. Ali, a person with just two years of experience in the position has been promoted over her. When she went to the HR department, she was told that Mr. Ali was promoted because of his higher qualification. However, the HR manager also said that it would be difficult for the department members to accept a female in a higher position of authority anyway and she should not take this as a reflection of her competence.
Questions:
1- Do you think this decision was fair and the reasoning of the HR manager justified?
2- Justify your answer with reasonable arguments.
